Workplace Ergonomics – Essentials Checklist

Your Screen

  1. Should be free from reflection, flicker or glare
  2. Be easily rotated or tilted for adjustments
  3. At a suitable height, the top line of the text should be just below eye level ( about 15 degrees)
  4. Characters should be at a suitable size colour and quality – try to avoid having more than six colours displayed simultaneuosly.

Documents

  1. Should be in a document viewing holder not flat on the desk
  2. Your document holder should be at a comfortable viewing distance in line with the screen
  3. You should consider all of the types, sizes and weights of documents before purchasing your document holder.
  4. Consider if frequent turning of the pages being viewed is required.

Keyboards

  1. Your keyboard should be detached from your screen for independent adjustment
  2. You should try your keyboard on for size to ensure they fit your hand size.
  3. The primary component used alpha or numeric should be placed directly in front of your body
  4. Extended keying on lap tops should be avoided – if you do need to use your laptop ad a remote keyboard and place the laptop safely on top of some phone box to give you the correct line of sight.
