Workplace Ergonomics – Essentials Checklist
Your Screen
- Should be free from reflection, flicker or glare
- Be easily rotated or tilted for adjustments
- At a suitable height, the top line of the text should be just below eye level ( about 15 degrees)
- Characters should be at a suitable size colour and quality – try to avoid having more than six colours displayed simultaneuosly.
Documents
- Should be in a document viewing holder not flat on the desk
- Your document holder should be at a comfortable viewing distance in line with the screen
- You should consider all of the types, sizes and weights of documents before purchasing your document holder.
- Consider if frequent turning of the pages being viewed is required.
Keyboards
- Your keyboard should be detached from your screen for independent adjustment
- You should try your keyboard on for size to ensure they fit your hand size.
- The primary component used alpha or numeric should be placed directly in front of your body
- Extended keying on lap tops should be avoided – if you do need to use your laptop ad a remote keyboard and place the laptop safely on top of some phone box to give you the correct line of sight.
