Event Company Fined under WHS Laws

An ACT event hire company has been convicted under the harmonised work health and safety (WHS) laws. Mashera Pty Ltd, trading as Barlens Event Hire, pleaded guilty to breaching section 33 of the ACT Work Health and Safety Act 2011. The Industrial Magistrate recorded a conviction and fined the company $37,500.

Safety Alliance Announced

The Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) has launched a new initiative called the Workplace Safety Alliance, which aims to raise awareness of safety at work through sport. Organisations from the transport, mining, construction and manufacturing sectors are being encouraged to join in support of Australian Paralympic athletes who engage employees through their own personal stories.
